Clichés and typical ridiculous romantic antics make up most of the recently released 27 Dresses and might make romantic comedy buffs cringe rather than sigh.

27 Dresses
Genres: Comedy
Actors: Edward Burns, James Marsden, Judy Greer, Katherine Heigl, Malin Akerman, Melora Hardin
First Sunday
Genres: Comedy, Drama
Actors: Ice Cube, Katt Williams, Malinda Williams, P.J. Byrne, Regina Hall
The characters were stereotypical and just not funny. The movie I had expected to be a true comedy ended up being a weak attempt at a “feel good” movie that aimed at teaching a played out lesson of right and wrong.
The Bucket List
Genres: Comedy
Actors: Jack Nicholson, Morgan Freeman, Rob Morrow, Sean Hayes
Over the weekend I went to see the movie Bucket List. No deep thinking was required; it was just a “feel good, appreciate life” kind of movie. The premise of the movie is that 2 old guys find out they have less than a year to live, so they make a list of all the things they want to do before they “kick the bucket.”
Juno
Genres: Comedy, Drama
Actors: Ellen Page, Jason Bateman, Jennifer Garner, Michael Cera, Olivia Thirlby
Saw Juno this week. I really liked this movie. It really flowed from beginning to end, in a way you wouldn’t expect from a movie that’s about teenage pregnancy. The characters seem like real people and they’re very likable. Juno finds out she’s pregnant, she tries to get an abortion, but can’t go through with it. She knows that she’s ill-equipped so she decides to find the best parents possible for the baby. This movie starts out like its going to be a silly comedy and ends beautifully, perfectly…
Beowulf
Genres: Action, Adventure, Drama
Actors: Angelina Jolie, Anthony Hopkins, Ray Winstone
Beowulf’s action sequences fit that description. They went on too long for my liking, but that is not what bothers me the most about the movie. It is the lack of a sympathetic main character…..
The Kite Runner
Genres: Drama
I can say that is absolutely a brilliant story and a brilliant movie. I will go buy the book and read it. I wasn’t expecting this story about an Afgan family being so familiar to my own childhood and bringing up some memories deeply buried in my memory. It is such a emotionally intense movie ! I try to play my role as a man and keep some of my feelings but this time I couldn’t help my self crying….
Charlie Wilson’s War
Genres: Comedy, Drama
Actors: Amy Adams, Julia Roberts, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Shiri Appleby, Tom Hanks
The movie revolves around how the operation unfolds and shows Wilson’s lavish life of partying and women, as well. Julia Roberts gives a great performance as well. The movie portrays life in the 1980’s well, and does a nice job showing realistic war scenes. There is also some political humor and satirical lines that balance the serious tone of the film…..
Alvin and the Chipmunks
Genres: Comedy, Kids
Actors: Cameron Richardson, David Cross, Jane Lynch, Jason Lee, Justin Long
We hauled TB and TG to see Alvin and the Chipmunks. It was better than it could have been, which is just about all that one can ask of a movie called Alvin and the Chipmunks. The scene in which Jason Lee’s presentation at work was ruined by the Chipmunks’ graffiti actually made me laugh out loud, and I never actually fell asleep or wished for death, so it was better than most children’s movies. Jason Lee gets a ‘good sport’ award for that one…..
I Am Legend
Genres: Action, Adventure, Science Fiction, Thriller
Actors: Alice Braga, Dash Mihok, Will Smith
I went to see I Am Legend today. It wasn’t the worst film I’ve ever seen, but I did catch myself thinking it was a really long 1 hour 40 minutes! There were lots of great scenes of a completely deserted New York, but that was about the best of it. I think the most annoying thing about the film is it didn’t really go anywhere. It just sort-of meandered. I still think the trailer looks cool! ![]()
National Treasure: Book of Secrets
Genres: Action, Adventure
Actors: Diane Kruger, Helen Mirren, Jon Voight, Justin Bartha, Nicholas Cage
Look, it’s not going to win any awards, but it was a lot of fun. Lots of action and a decent (albeit unrealistic) story. If you can suspend belief a little (think Transformers), you’ll enjoy this movie…..
